Study on Snack Intakes and Content of Body Fat of Middle School Students in Chungju


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate snack intakes and content of body fat of five hundred middle school students in Chungju.
The results obtained were summarized as follows ;
The average height, weight, and weight/height ratio of male subjects were 160.2cm, 48.6kg, 32.2 and those of female subjects were 156.6cm, 46.9kg, 29.9. The average percentage of body fat was 17.9% in male subjects and 28.4% in female subjects. The number of female subjects in H (high percentage of body fat) group were more than male group, Body fat percentage and body fat weight of obese group were significantly higher than those of the other groups. A majority of subjects liked sweet food, deep frying food. Fruit was the item which a majority of subjects liked.
Obese group showed high frequency of snack intakes and liked deep frying food. Beverage consumption of male subjects was higher than that of female subjects. Height, weight and weight/height ratio were observed to have significant positive correlation with educational level of parents (p<0.01). Body fat percentage showed positive correlation with monthly income (p<0.05), but negative correlation with meal frequency (p<0.001).
